Writing and Literacy through Poetry Program
The B.A.M.M. Writing and Literacy through Poetry program focuses on getting youth to to develop and strengthen basic and fundamental reading and writing skills. The program has three critical phases, which includes:
Phase I: The Further Development of Basic Reading and Writing Skills.
During this phase of the program, students will be encouraged to develop, strengthen, and experience the fun of poetry and spoken words.
Phase II: The Basics and Fundamentals of Writing Poetry.
Students will learn critical concepts and techniques for writing poetry. Students will study past and current poets and literary artists.
Phase III: The Basic and Fundamentals of Reciting Poetry.
During this phase, students will cultivate and build self esteem and confidence in the area of public speaking and oral presentations.
Public Service Poets
The Public Service Poets program is a special writing and literacy program for at-risk youth and young adults. Under this program, public service poets will exchange public service hours for sharing enlightening and mind opening consequences for risky and violent behaviors.
This form of writing and literacy program provides students with the first hand knowledge of consequences and down fall of committing criminal offenses from those who have committed offenses and suffered from them.
The program is offered to community based organizations, after school programs, public and private schools, and colleges with a strong focus and interest in Juvenile and adult probations institutions in an ongoing effort of addressing and reducing the issues of recidivism.
